All of our plants are grown on beautiful land very near the Atlantic shoreline, and are cultivated in top-of-the-line nurseries.

The island that Palmco resides on – charming Pine Island – has a moderate climate that is perfect for long growing seasons. This ensures that we can grow for longer and in better conditions than would otherwise be possible. As one of the largest growers in North America, our plantation measures over 600 acres. Combined with the long growing season, this results in an almost unparalleled number of high-quality cultivated plants.

Among our favorites are:

King Sago: The King Sago “palm tree,” despite its name, is not a palm at all but is actually a cycad plant. Cycads are some of the oldest plants in the world, dating to prehistoric times and are often referred to as "living fossils." Cycas revoluta is native to Japan’s southernmost islands where it enjoys a subtropical climate. It is right at home in Florida and throughout the Gulf Coast, adapting to temperatures from 15 to 110°F, accepting full sun or partial shade, and tolerating neglect. It is hardy in USDA Zone 8 to 10. Plant it for its unique shape and texture and glossy metallic leaves.

Mast Tree: This tall but slender evergreen tree (30 to 45 feet) is native to India and is also known as False Ashoka and Indian Fir. With greenery from top to bottom, it makes a strong statement as an architectural accent, a hedge, privacy screen, or windbreak, and retains its beauty without any trimming. In spring, the tree is covered with delicate star-like pale green flowers and attracts bees, butterflies and birds. Suitable for USDA Zones 10a to 11, the Mast Tree is an excellent substitute for the Italian Cypress which struggles to grow in South Florida.

Shady Lady: The Shady Lady is also known as the Black Olive tree. Despite the name, the tree is completely unrelated to the edible olive (Olea europaea). The evergreen tree, a native of the Central America and the Western Caribbean, makes a spectacular addition to any medium or large landscaping space. In spring, it’s covered with abundant clusters of tiny yellowish flowers. The Shady Lady flourishes in USDA zones 10B to 11 and can reach heights of 40 to 50 feet, so it’s important to consider the tree’s eventual mature size before planting.
