Palmco has wholesale Polyalthia longifolia Pendula trees for sale that you will be proud to display as part of your Florida landscape project. Check out our stock of some of the most impressive palms, clumping bamboos, and field-grown and containerized trees in the world.

Established in 1984 on Pine Island, Florida, Palmco farms over 600 acres along the Gulf of Mexico on Florida’s southwest coast. This fertile setting provides a long growing season due to our abundant supply of water and warm Florida sunshine.

Our wholesale nursery and tree farm is known for producing truly beautiful specimens, including one of the most unique South Florida landscape trees, Polyalthia longifolia “Pendula,” commonly known as the Mast Tree or False Ashoka.

About the Mast Tree

The Mast Tree is a beautiful evergreen tree that is covered from top to bottom in graceful, shiny pendulous leaves. It grows symmetrically to 30 to 45 feet and provides an excellent vertical accent in any landscape.

Use it for:

  • lining a driveway or avenue
  • privacy screening
  • framing tall structures
  • tall living hedges
  • focal specimens
  • noise screening
  • blocking wind

The leaves of the Mast Tree start out a coppery brown color, turn light green as they age, and eventually become a shiny dark green. They remain on the tree in all seasons, almost completely covering the trunk, and the natural color contrast makes a spectacular show when the trees are planted in groups.

Once a year in the spring, Polyalthia longifolia blooms with fragrant star-like pale green flowers that typically last for two to three weeks. This is followed by clusters of fruit that start out green but ripen to purple or black. The Mast Tree is known for attracting butterflies and birds.

This native of India and Sri Lanka is not very tolerant of cold weather (below 32° F), which means it is best suited to USDA Zones 10a to 11. Since the Italian Cypress prefers the cooler temperatures of Zone 9b northward, the Mast Tree is the perfect subtropical substitute for South Florida properties.

In the right location, the Mast tree makes a strong statement. It’s drought-tolerant and suitable for xeriscaping. It’s also remarkably flexible; during storms, mature trees will bend like bamboos.
