St. Augustine, FL Wholesale Bamboo Plants

Whether you are designing a brand new project in St. Augustine, FL or adding a touch of the tropics to a client’s existing landscape, Palmco offers 15 stunning species of wholesale clumping bamboo plants that will meet your requirements.

Palmco is Florida’s premier grower of top quality non-invasive clumping bamboo. We are one of the largest palm and bamboo plantations in North America and offer breathtaking tropical and subtropical bamboo to customers across the Southeastern United States.

Our clumping bamboos will help you create privacy and beauty within a few growing seasons. Apart from their beauty, one of their best features is that they are non-invasive. They don’t spread out horizontally more than a few inches each year, making them the ideal low-maintenance alternative to larger, more aggressive, running bamboos.

Many of Palmco’s clumping bamboo varieties are well-suited to the St. Augustine climate, including:

Alphonse Karr Bamboo – This bamboo is cold-hardy to about 15° F. Alphonse Karr is a dense Chinese bamboo that grows to an average of 20 feet with 1- inch diameter culms, making it an excellent screen or hedge bamboo. It can also be used as a focal point in a planter or island or in a decorative container. Alphonse Karr has low water requirements, is very easy to maintain, and provides wonderful color in the landscape with its striking yellow culms with random green stripes.

Graceful Bamboo – Also called Slender Weavers, this Chinese variety is the most graceful of all bamboos. It has few lower branches on mature culms, so its attractive 1-inch diameter canes can be seen without pruning the plant. Graceful Bamboos have an upright growth pattern and are very well-behaved. Growing to a typical height of 25 feet, the plant will fit nicely in any city or country tropical garden, including small, narrow yards. It can handle temperatures down to 15° F.

Tropical Blue Bamboo – Cold-hardy to about 20° F, this popular medium-tight clumper has light green leaves and nicely spaced thin-walled culms that develop a stunning powder-like, soft, light blue bloom. It needs a little more room than a tight clumping variety. At a maximum height of about 35 feet with 3-inch diameter culms, Tropical Blue Bamboo is appropriate as an ornamental or as a dense privacy hedge.

Caring for Clumping Bamboo

Clumpers grow slowly outward from the original culms within a fairly tight-contained circulararea and need loose, well-draining and slightly acidic soil. They prefer a location that gets at least 5 hours of sunlight every day and need a few inches of water per week. (They will need more water when newly planted or in dry, windier conditions.)

You can fertilize outdoor bamboo with a small amount of slow or controlled release fertilizer at planting. The golden rule is “a little and often.” Three to four applications per year of slow-release high nitrogen fertilizer is adequate.
