Using Bamboo for Privacy

Using Bamboo for Privacy

Using clumping bamboo for privacy is as easy as planting it in the ground and letting it grow. When planted in the correct place, it creates a natural privacy barrier. It forms a screen because of the way it naturally clumps to form thickets. Clumping bamboo is great for privacy, blocking wind, blocking sound, and is also quite striking.

About

Palmco is Florida’s premier grower of top quality non-invasive clumping bamboo. We are one of the largest palm and bamboo plantations in North America and offer breathtaking tropical and subtropical bamboo to customers across the Southeastern United States. Our clumping bamboos will help you create privacy and beauty within a few growing seasons.

How to Use Clumping Bamboo

Clumping bamboo is ideal for defining spaces on a large property. Build a wall between a swimming pool and playground. Create a fresh and green living fence. Use it to screen off garages and work areas or to block an unpleasant view within a few short years. Some varieties make excellent container plants for patios and poolside planting.

Tall, erect varieties are beautiful when used as avenue or driveway plantings. A specimen clump of bamboo can also create a spectacular focal point in a landscape, but it’s important to allow them enough space so they can be seen to their best advantage.

And, because our clumping bamboos are non-invasive, they won’t go where you don’t want them to go. This gives you the ability to provide your residential and commercial customers with exotic, yet manageable, plants. Consider these stunning varieties:

Asian Lemon Bamboo

Asian Lemon bamboo is great for both aesthetic applications and privacy screening. It is a tight clumping bamboo that reaches heights of up to 25 feet, which makes it great for screening. It also features deep, impressive colors that attract the eye immediately, making it great as a centerpiece.

This bamboo can be used for privacy screening, but it can also be used simply for its beauty. When used for its aesthetic properties, it makes a spectacular centerpiece.

Golden Goddess Bamboo

The well-behaved Golden Goddess bamboo is one of the smaller clumping bamboo varieties, reaching only about 10 to 12 feet in height. This makes it a popular choice for shorter hedges and for containers on the patio or around the pool. The semi-dwarf bamboo also creates a beautiful privacy hedge when planted four to eight feet apart.

Golden Goddess has very small, delicate leaves and densely packed 1/4-inch canes that become golden with age and sun exposure. It fills in quickly, creating a beautiful hedge in about six months and a privacy wall within a year. It is very cold hardy down to 15°F to 18°F and extremely drought tolerant once established.
