Asian Lemon Bamboo (Bambusa eutuldoides ‘Viridivittata’) – The bold coloration of the tight clumping Asian Lemon Bamboo from Southern China is eye-catching in any landscape. New culms have pink and peach tones with green stripes. When established, the culms are lemon yellow with green stripes, and the plant has dark green leaves. This clumping bamboo can reach heights up to 25 feet tall, making it an excellent choice for privacy screening. Asian Lemon Bamboo can withstand temperatures down to 20 degrees Fahrenheit. It is frost tolerant and enjoys sun to partial shade.
Emerald Bamboo (Bambusa mutabilis) – Emerald bamboo is persistently covered with white blooms that sometimes give it a blue tint. Consequently, it’s often called White Bamboo and Emperor’s Blue Bamboo. These clumping bamboos are stunning and rare, and would be an excellent addition to your client’s tropical paradise. They can reach 30 feet in height and will make an excellent privacy screen. Emerald bamboo has good cold hardiness for a tropical bamboo and can tolerate temperatures down to 15 degrees Fahrenheit.
Golden Goddess (Bambusa multiplex golden goddess) — This beauty is particularly well-suited to small lots or for containers on the patio or around the pool. It is non-invasive, fast growing, and easy to maintain. Due to its thin and densely packed 1/4-inch canes, it is perfect for 6 to 12 foot hedges and can be trimmed and maintained to any desired shape. It should be planted 4 to 8 feet apart. and the spread will fill in quickly, providing great privacy. Golden Goddess Bamboo is very hardy down to 15 degrees Fahrenheit.
Graceful Bamboo (Bambusa textilis gracilis) – This Chinese variety, also known as Slender Weavers, lives up to its name by being the most graceful and lush of all bamboos. Mature plants will be branchless on the lower third of the culms, so you can see the attractive 1-inch diameter canes without having to prune the plant. Graceful Bamboos have an upright growth pattern and are very well-behaved. They are ideal as screens in a narrow space or wherever a strong vertical look is desired. This clumping bamboo can handle temperatures down to 15 degrees Fahrenheit.
